The courses below can be tailored according to your specific needs but this provides an outline of the type of training we offer as part of this program.
Half-day Training Course
Objectives
- To provide participants with the tools and knowledge to identify potential media opportunities and to translate these into positive outcomes
- To give participants an understanding of the Sunshine Coast media and to provide them with a better understanding of how journalists operate, their objectives and timelines.
Content
Fresh PR & Marketing recommends an intensive half-day training course which will cover the following aspects of media liaison:
1. Understanding the media – how media organisations operate, what deadlines they operate under, who the various media are on the Sunshine Coast and beyond, what journalists want (please note that this training does not include the provision of a media contact list).
2. Understanding your target markets and your desired communication outcomes.
3. Preparation of materials and the distribution thereof, including:
- Identifying story ideas
- Media release structure
- Hosting a media opportunity
- Use of Photography
- Tips on Distribution
Full-day Training Course
If more in-depth training is required, we would recommend a full-day intensive training session which provides participants with several opportunities to hone and improve their skills and also includes media training to conduct interviews.

- To provide participants with the tools and knowledge to identify potential media opportunities and to translate these into positive outcomes

- To provide participants with the tools and knowledge to be confident, project credibility, stay calm and to take a proactive approach when participating in media interviews.
- To give participants an understanding of how to evaluate their target markets and best respond for the most positive outcome.
- To provide participants with real journalist interviews in a ‘live’ situation and to evaluate their responses.
Additional content
This course includes the content in the above-mentioned half-day course as well as the following media training:
1. A more in-depth insight into how the media operate including feedback from a high profile journalist.
2. Reviewing examples of both positive and negative media coverage.
3. Interview preparation – developing your key messages, how do deliver clear, usable quotes, staying on track and how can you best convey this information in a succinct and clear manner. This section will include presentation tips such as appropriate colours and make-up for TV interviews as well as how you behave in front of the camera or live on air.
4. How to handle a difficult interview – preparing for difficult questions, expecting a media ambush, uses of ‘no comment’ and ‘off the record’, dealing with investigative journalists, evading questions and offering the best sound bite for the story.
